  • Reflections & Notes on "Home Tonight: Further Reflections on the Parable of the Prodigal Son" - 01

"Where is your home?" "Are you home tonight?"

It is a difficult questions when "home" links to something about creator. Still suspecting if there is really a place for me at "home".

The author invited reader to join with people doing well and languish in various difficult situations to "claim" one's humanity instead of being self-centric - "thinking, growing, speaing or acting just for yourself". Engage one's heart, mind, life experience and belief towards the "presence" which offers "safety, healing, forgiveness" etc

Three "ancient spiritual disciplines: listening, journaling and communing"

    Listening

Stay attentive to stirrings in one's heart and ask
    1. "Who is voicing that message?"
    2. "Why do you think it is meaningful for you?"

    Journaling

    Rembrandt's drawing - http://www.artchive.com/artchive/R/rembrandt/prodigal_son.jpg.html

    1. "Record all that you observed about the light. Stay with it, and write what you heard when you listened and what the light in the painting is saying to you"
    2. write about the contrast between light and "shadows and darkness"
    3. Find words expressing thoughts and feelings about "light, darkness, shadows in your own life"

    Communing

    1. "Speak your thoughts and feelings without fear" as if the One before you
    2. "Pinpoint your feelings and beliefs in terms of light, darkness, and shadows" one encounterd
